With the PD-R9300, SHIMANO introduces the next generation of their road bike clipless pedals: The SPD-SLR platform offers 2.3 mm less stack height and enables seamless contact between cleat and pedal, bringing your feet closer to the pedal axle than is the case with SPD-SL. As a result, the DURA ACE PD-R9300 provide you with particularly high pedalling stability and improved power transfer.
The required engagement angle has also been reduced from 17.3° to 10.5° compared to the predecessor. Together with the larger engagement zone, entry into the PD-R9300 should therefore be even faster and more intuitive. The cleats have also been further developed; they now manage without metal washers and slotted holes and, depending on the version, achieve a weight saving of up to 22% compared to their predecessors. They are compatible with SPD-SL three-hole shoes. However, if you want to take full advantage of the SLR system, you should take a look at the SHIMANO SH-RC910 and SH-RC810 road shoes, which were developed specifically for the SLR system. They allow for a greater adjustment range for the cleats in the longitudinal direction and also clearer markings for precise positioning.
Compared to the PD-R8200, SHIMANO uses bearings with a visibly larger diameter in the PD-R9300, which makes the DURA ACE pedals up to 11% more torsionally rigid and thus able to transfer your power even more directly into your bike's drivetrain. A heat-treated axle and special bearing seats are also designed to reduce the rotational resistance of the DURA ACE pedals by up to 53 per cent compared to their ULTEGRA counterpart. The PD-R9300 thus position themselves as the spearhead of SHIMANO road pedals.
As an integrative system, SHIMANO has ideally matched pedals, cleats and shoes for the SPD-SLR platform. As a result, you can benefit from lower stack height, lower weight, easier engagement, more direct power transfer and simplified adjustment options.
